In solidarity

The words Queers against Islamophobia (written on paper, by hand), appear on the cover of a blue and gold journal.

My heart is heavy today, hearing of the mass shooting in Orlando.

I’ve been at a loss for words – all I can think to say is this:

We must resist the pressure to fight one oppression with another. Islamophobia will not undo homo/trans/queerphobia. My heart goes out to queers, to Muslims, to queer Muslims, for whom feeling safe and finding places of refuge is a constant battle. We are in this together.

As a culture, we have created a climate where injustices and massacres like this occur.  And as a culture, we will create a new way forward. We have to.

Our work is not done.  Our work is never done.
